Early in the morning as I drive to work each day, I see someone walking their dog. It’s pitch black outside, and more than a little chilly that time of day, and yet someone is faithfully walking the family pet. The best part about seeing the pair is watching as the flashlight being carried carves a path of light in the darkness. Every step their feet, (and paws), takes is illuminated by one small flashlight. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” (John 1:5)
As we move throughout our days we encounter areas where everything seems dark. But Jesus gave us a promise we can hold onto. “When Jesus spoke again to the people He said, ‘I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'” (John 8:12) That’s a pretty good deal: the light of life. There’s security in knowing we have light for everyday of our lives. “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105) Helen Keller said, “Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.” So its seems we have a choice, we can choose light.
What is light anyways? It’s a river flowing with all the good things God wants in our lives: love, joy, peace, and kindness, and so much more… God has an abundance of light planned just for you. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights…” (James 1:17) Don’t ever be distracted by the shadows around you, God’s ‘flashlight’ is fully charged, so you can always see your way in the dark.
Love the Helen Keller quote
I like quotes you can feel. I think of the feeling of the sun’s warmth on my face with this one.
