Burnt rolls, undercooked roast beef, and runny casserole. What do they have in common? They happened in my kitchen, when I was cooking. Although up for debate, my biggest blunder happened when I was a preteen. My family was going to be surprised with my chocolate chip cookies. I was pretty impressed with myself as I took the cookies out of the oven. Proudly I carried them into the living room to share with my brothers and they enthusiastically grabbed them. However, their groans, cries of distress, and strong words, (I am deliberately leaving those words out), caused me great confusion. Apparently, substituting salt for sugar in a recipe is a bad idea. Who would have thought a cup of salt could make such a fuss? I guess I should have been paying better attention to the details.
Fortunately, God keeps a close watch on His ‘projects.’ From the start, He was always watching over us. “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” (Psalm 139:16) He doesn’t wander off and think about other things like I do. Genesis 28:15, “What’s more, I am with you, and will protect you wherever you go…I will be with you constantly until I have finished giving you all I am promising.” And let’s face it, He’s promising a lot! He’s arranging things in our favor. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) Unlike me, God is always paying attention. When He starts something, you know it’s going to be simply amazing. After all, the details are His specialty.
