Although waterfalls face constant opposition, they just keep going. My friends and I saw dozens of them on our trip to Maui, each unique and breathtaking in their own right. One thing the waterfalls had in common: they all had to push through obstacles to reach the zenith of their destiny. One waterfall was hidden deep in the woods where tree branches and rocks in the river fought to slow the cascade. Another time, we hiked 2 miles through a bamboo forest to see the determined descent of a mountain’s waterfall. Others climbed over boulders, fought past rocky ledges, and crashed around manmade obstructions. Nonetheless, they all kept going, displaying their beauty and their strength.
Each of us have dreams and goals just waiting to be fulfilled. Unfortunately, there are obstacles that get in our way too. And yet, we don’t face them in our own power. “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13 WEB) It can be overwhelming to face repeated setbacks. Delays in our plans cause frustration. Constant battles wear us out. But God helps us in these situations. “He gives strength to those who are tired; to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy…But those who wait for the Lord’s help find renewed strength; they rise up as if they had eagle’s wings, they run without growing weary, they walk without getting tired.” (Isaiah 40: 29,31 NET) We each have a destiny to fulfill, a carved out niche in our little corner of the world. There are going to be situations, setbacks, and even people who try to stop our forward progress. “Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT) In God’s strength we keep going through every obstacle. In God’s goodness our future becomes beautiful.
