Confident Expectation

The flowers I planted today were nice, but they hold no comparison to their future glory.  Right now they’re a bit sparse, a little droopy, and a bit on the small side.  Don’t get me wrong, the yellow flowers (coreopsis, yarrow, and petunias) on my front porch have already added a ‘touch of color.’ The red geraniums are taking a stand under the pergola of the back porch.  However, I am expecting more color as summer approaches.  My flowers need the basics: sun, water, and perhaps a sprinkling of Miracle-Gro.  But their greatest need: just a little more time.

Sometimes our circumstances need a little more time too.  But who wants to wait for situations to improve?  And what’s so great about waiting?  Isaiah 40:31, “…but they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”  (Okay, so strength and endless energy, that sounds pretty great.)   Even if the waiting seems endless, stay strong!  “For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false.  Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. (Habakkuk 2:3) The real question then: ‘How should we wait?’   We should wait with confident expectation because there are better days ahead. Psalms 27:31, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Here’s the truth: God knows your address, so with confident expectation you can be sure His goodness will arrive right on time.
